Usually you'll be shooting 6" groups or so with your Mosin-Nagant at 100 yards, maybe worse. While there are some upsides to the Mosin's iron sights (discussed), there's some significant downsides too: usually you can't zero them to point of aim (need taller front sight), they lack precision, and they're no good in low light. Enter the best mount I've found for the Mosins so far, the Brass Stacker scout mount. It's 100% US made CNC milled steel from a small private company. It attaches strongly as shown with the cross bolts and installation is usually pretty straightforward. Use blue locktite on those mini nuts and cut off excess length and mill the bolts clean. It saddles the rear sight block and allows use of the iron sights as well. If you want to remove it, you can easily return your beloved Mosin to its stock configuration as well. Use a pistol scope like the excellent and high value Weaver 2.5x8x28mm #849429 pistol scope and watch your groups tighten up. With 22-75 LPS and 10-80 Yugo ammo we got almost 1 MOA groupings (shown) with this mount and scope...incredible. Upsides include this higher precision, no mount shifting (when mounted and used as indicated), moderate cost for such a high quality product ( now), light weight, improved low light capabilities, and increased fun levels (it's funner to hit what you're shooting at!). The only notable downside is the higher cheek weld required. Until I find something better (unlikely), TNP will be running these Brass ...
