Practical cold weather testing of the Mosin-Nagan 91/30. With friend Cr0cket20, we launch out into the snow for engagements on Actiontarget.com steel plates to see what this rifle can do in these conditions. Temps ranged from 20ºF down to 15ºF later on. This particular Mosin-Nagant 1927 model wears my DuraCoat job in "Tactical Grey Green" (perfect color for the gun) and a Millet 1" red dot sight in a S&K brand scope base mounting in the rear sight area. In low light and overall speed this is a superior set up to the iron sights of the Mosin as proven in testing. The S&K mount has proven 100% stable in extensive testing as well (install carefully with blue Loc-Tite). In this outing, this Mosin 91/30 excels in the cold and the snow and shows that its battle-born pedigree still holds up. But be careful how you load those shells: it can experience rim lock if the cartridges are not loaded in forward stacking fashion, despite the "interrupter" in the magazine. This has happened at every stage of TNP testing. Firing the Mosin fast and accurately takes commitment and the user needs to cycle the bolt with authority and conviction. Short stroking the bolt can cause hangups as well. The trigger is pretty much awful but a good shooter can work through it and achieve remarkable accuracy. Model #5847 is reviewed here but its representative of the whole Ruger Mini-14 Tactical and Ranch rifle lineup. The accuracy criticisms held some truth as the older Mini-14s (and their poor quality, pencil-thin barrels) often had heat-stringing issues and about 4-7 MOA accuracy (with rack-grade ammunition). In this thorough Nutnfancy review of Mini-14 Tactical model (and NRA Model providing more data points), I cut through this chaff and attempt to get to the truth. These days citizen are searching for more ways to save money on hunting gear. To be honest, they are not to blame as many Americans are starting to pinch their pennies. Anyways, most sportsmen own guns of some type. Most big game hunters own a rifle for that matter and have to have some sort of scope mounted on it to accurately and efficiently take down game animals. However, the majority of brand name rifle scopes cost some hundred dollars at the least. This is why I would like to talk about the town point rifle scope today.

The town point rifle scope is known in general for being very affordable and that it is sold in Wal-Mart stores. At under one hundred dollars, this petite rifle scope will put a lot less damage on the old wallet. But the examine is not either it is affordable, rather the main point of seminar has to do with either or not it works. In other words, is this cheap rifle scope just a waste of money? Well, lucky for you folks, I have purchased one of these town point 4-16x scopes and have field tested it on two dissimilar guns. One was a 30-06 and the other was a 300 win mag. The scope performed magnificently on the 30-06 and I was able to shoot some categorically nice groups at on hundred yards. However, to categorically know if this was a potential goods or not, I had to go a bit further. I mounted the scope on a 300 Winchester Magnum in order to see how the scope held up to a petite more fire power. Unbelievably, the scope held its own and was still able to shoot great groups without breaking. Not to mention that it has an illuminated scope as well. So, is it safe to say that I got my money's worth? You bet ya.

A good idea but not without limitations

The estimate of hunters that carry binocs when they're hunting is pretty decent. In fact, more hunters probably should. Yes, you give up some field of view when you look straight through any magnified device, but sometimes there's no great way to see far-off movement or that bedded-down deer that you would never see with the naked eye. If you're in dense cover or part of a deer drive or something, binoculars may not do you much good, but in a bow hunting stand or still hunting or abundance of other scenarios, they're a great increasing to your gear.

Mounting Rifle Scopes With Weaver and Picatinny Style Bases

Mounting Rifle Scopes can come to be confusing when navigating straight through the world of ready riflescope rings and bases.
