About Millett Industries
Founded in the mid-1970s, Millett Industries was the brainchild of Betty and Ray Millett, who purchased surplus cleaning equipment from an out-of-business clothing cleaner in Huntington Beach, California, and used the tanks and much of the plumbing to develop a new process for manufacturing metal and ceramic parts. Tactical rifle optics, how to choose?

Some basic guidance to help you choose.

Rifle Scope

Well first we need to ask what is the intended application of the rifle in question? Are you looking to build a tactical sniper rifle, close combat rifle, or more of a normal multi situation tactical rifle?'

The first in the list above is the sniper rifle, intended for long range accusation of a target. A tactical scope for this type of application would wish crisp clear optics, the potential to consolidate the most light as possible in low light circumstances and legitimately adjusted windage (the number of adjustment needed in the aim of a projectile to counter wind deflection) and elevation (the number of adjustment needed in the aim of a projectile to counter the rate of bullet drop)

Many long range rifle scopes are designed for a particular caliber of bullet, they are even calibrated for individual bullet weight. This will be an leading construct specification to consider when determining a tactical sniper scope. You would not want to use a scope specifically designed for a.223 round on a.308 rifle.

The next in our list is a tactical rifle used for close combat situations. For this type of application many habitancy like the "red dot" type of sights or a Holographic type of sight. The red dot sight made illustrious by "Aimpoint" is great for super fast target accusation. Unlike using the standard facility iron sights, where we must line up the rear sight with the front sight to be on target a red dot type of sight allows us just to town the "dot" on our target. This allows changing targets very fast and accurate.

The laser sight may also be carefully for close combat. The laser sight "projects" a small dot on the target itself. Two things to consider here. First if the laser dot is noticed it may give away a tactical advantage. But on the other hand it can be used as a great preventative in some situations, such as perhaps a hostage situation. This is debated by professionals.

The last in our list is the multi situational rifle, sort of the jack of all trades or Swiss army knife of rifle. This is the excellent rifle for a tactical compound scope that offers aspects of many separate scope designs. This would contain both a red dot optic, laser and a small degree of magnification of the target. Many scopes of this type also contain an choice for a flashlight attachment for low light applications.

Also we can use a compound of optics on a particular rifle. For instance, a red dot laser compound with detachable magnification tube and detach under mounted flashlight. Or even mounting a small red dot sight on top of a longer range scope.

Model #5847 is reviewed here but its representative of the whole Ruger Mini-14 Tactical and Ranch rifle lineup. Some will discount the Mini as a viable tactical choice, saying that it is wildly inaccurate and cannot be depended upon for hard use. The accuracy criticisms held some truth as the older Mini-14s (and their poor quality, pencil-thin barrels) often had heat-stringing issues and about 4-7 MOA accuracy (with rack-grade ammunition). In this thorough Nutnfancy review of Mini-14 Tactical model (and NRA Model providing more data points), I cut through this chaff and attempt to get to the truth. Fact is, with factory Ruger mags or other high quality options (discussed), the fixed-piston Mini-14 is has been a durable and ultra-reliable rifle (when used with good mags), proven in my own shooting since 1983. Based on the battle-proven M1 Garand action, the rotating open bolt design is tolerant of mud, water, and dust and keeps shucking, often when other gun systems have shut down in tough conditions. But a main focus of this review is not the long-established reliability but the improvements made on the 580 Series of Minis since 2004, particularly BARREL IMPROVEMENTS. selecting the Right Tactical Scope

Built using the Ultimate Sighting System (USS), the Mark III Tactical P4 3-9x42 scope combines the benefits of a Mark III tactical scope with the advantage of a backup red dot sight. The system is equipped with a Mark III tactical scope and a specially designed MRD34 ring. The ring, which mounts directly to the ocular lens housing with a built-in Weaver-style platform, stabilizes the DDAB red dot sight so you can lock confidently lock on your target. With the scope and sight, the USS is perfect for both close quarter battle and long-range shooting.

The scope also includes fully multicoated lenses for brightness and clarity, along with a red/green illuminated P4 sniper reticle with multiple brightness settings. Other features include open target turrets, a bullet drop compensator calibrated for the .223 cartridge with a 55-grain bullet, a rotating mount for users who prefer offset functionality, a built-in sunshade, and a quick-focus eyepiece.
